Prime Minister Magyar appoints three new county governors amid administrative reforms

Prime Minister Magyar confirmed three new county governors after the rural development minister suggested the candidates. Kálmán János will lead the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Government, Mészáros Gábor will head the Baranya County Government, and Török Tamás István will take charge of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Government. In a previous round of appointments, the prime minister also placed Bede Péter József, Bozsolik Róbert Zsolt, Cseresnyés Béla, Fröhlichné Hamar Edit, Kovács Éva, Sinka-Ács Judit and Tyukodi Dávid at the helm of other county offices.

The Hungarian Parliament recently decided to revert the counties to their traditional names and to have the governors serve as direct government representatives. This shift restores the historic "vármegye" and "főispán" terminology first introduced by the Fidesz administration in 2022.
