Prime Minister Magyar orders exclusion of Mészáros Lőrinc's firm from rail contracts
Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced on Facebook that Mészáros Lőrinc's railway construction company will be barred from all current rail procurement processes.
Prime Minister Peter Magyar used a Friday Facebook post to state that Mészáros Lőrinc's railway construction company will be removed from every ongoing rail procurement procedure. The same decision was reiterated at a government press conference, where Transport and Investment Minister David Vitézy noted that V-Híd had been informed minutes before the announcement. The action stems from irregularities identified in the Southern Circular Railway project, where the European Court of Auditors found that V-Híd accessed privileged information via the design firm Kontúr Group, giving it an unfair competitive edge.
As a result, the government will cancel the existing contract for the Southern Circular Railway and order V-Híd to leave the construction site. A fresh public tender will be issued to complete the project.
Why it matters
The ruling could reshape Hungary's rail infrastructure contracts and affect major construction firms.
