Prime suspect claims he tried to rescue teen after drug overdose at party
Aryan Goswami, the main suspect in the death of 18-year-old Anwesha Saikia, says he attempted to save her after she overdosed on drugs at his flat.
Authorities detained Aryan Goswami, identified as the prime accused in the fatal incident involving 18-year-old student Anwesha Saikia, after a raid in Rangajan, Golaghat. While being escorted to Jorhat Medical College for mandatory examinations, Goswami asserted that he tried to revive Saikia by giving her salt, a remedy he heard could counteract a drug overdose, but she collapsed before help arrived. His companions, Monalisa Nath and Arpita Kakoty, who were present at the party in his mother Jharna Goswami’s second-floor flat on Aug 15, were also taken into custody.
The trio later transported Saikia to Jorhat Medical College, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Family members reject the suspects’ narrative, citing bruising on Saikia’s neck and face and demanding a thorough forensic probe. CCTV footage reportedly shows the group moving the victim from the apartment to a parking area before the autorickshaw ride to the hospital.
