Prince William unveils first-ever suicide-prevention toolkit for sport on World Suicide Prevention Day

Prince William launched a new suicide-prevention toolkit for the sporting sector at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium on World Suicide Prevention Day, with major sports bodies pledging to adopt it.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, Prince William hosted the launch of "On Your Side", a pioneering suicide-prevention toolkit aimed at the entire sport ecosystem. Developed by The Royal Foundation with the British Standards Institution and mental-health charity Chasing the Stigma, the guide provides practical steps for creating supportive environments, spotting risk indicators and responding to crises. A short film featuring athletes like Harry Kane and George Russell accompanied the launch.

Leading sports personalities—including Dame Kelly Holmes, Jill Scott, Gabby Logan, Campbell Hatton and Dame Laura Kenny—joined the Prince at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Football Association, Premier League, British Cycling and Team GB pledged to roll out the resource throughout their structures, while dozens of other clubs and organisations signed up as champions. The toolkit is hosted on the Hub of Hope, the UK’s largest mental-health directory, and is designed for use from grassroots clubs to elite teams.

Why it matters

It equips sports organisations with concrete tools to address suicide risk, leveraging the sector’s wide reach to reduce stigma and save lives.
