Prisons Department Refutes Singer Yasin's Claims of Money-Driven Prison Hierarchy

In a recent podcast, singer and composer Yasin Sulaiman alleged that prisoners are ranked according to their money and connections, creating a de facto caste system. The Prisons Department, represented by senior director of prison policy Mohamad Rosidek Musa, dismissed the claim during a press briefing at Pengkalan Chepa women's block, asserting that such a hierarchy does not exist and that existing SOPs aim to curb any negative practices.

Rosidek acknowledged that occasional misconduct might happen but emphasized the department's focus on rehabilitation programmes and positive outcomes for former inmates. He questioned Yasin's motives, noting the singer's recent release and the social-media attention it generated. The statement was made at the closing of the department's Bookathon programme, organized with Boustead Holdings Berhad, Royale Chulan Damansara and Syarikat Muda Osman (SMO) Bookstores.
