Pritzker Says Republicans Supporting Trump Will Be Barred from 2028 White House Bid

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker used a counter-programming press conference in Dallas, organized by the Democratic National Committee, to warn that any Republican who attends the GOP’s midterm convention and praises Donald Trump will be barred from running for president in 2028. He said the move reflects Democrats’ confidence and the growing voter backlash against Trump-linked politics. While hinting at possible presidential ambitions, Pritzker emphasized his focus on re-election in Illinois and argued that a Democratic-controlled Congress would benefit his state, citing recent cuts to Medicaid and SNAP and job losses tied to trade wars.

Earlier this week he announced a $20 million Ready for the Fight political action committee to fund Democratic candidates and protect against what he described as Trump’s effort to “steal” the midterms. He defended his strong rhetoric, stating it is intended to motivate turnout and prevent future elections from being “rigged.” The governor’s comments come as the GOP convention, dubbed “Trump-a-palozza” by some, prepares to begin.
