Private island near Venice with historic Napoleonic fort listed for $7.5 million

The Island of Crevan, a private parcel situated less than five miles from Venice in the lagoon, is being sold for $7.5 million. The estate covers 5,700 square miles and includes a historic 215-square-mile fort that now serves as a small villa surrounded by vegetable gardens. An internal canal and two private moorings provide easy access by water or air, and the property was fully restored in 1996, featuring four principal rooms and two bathrooms.

Originally constructed in 1806 as part of Napoleon’s defensive network for the lagoon, the fort was later enlarged under Austrian control and remained a military site until after World War I. Following its incorporation into the Kingdom of Italy in 1866, the island entered private ownership and was adapted for residential use. Prospective buyers may combine the existing caretaker’s quarters to create a larger, modern home, while the surrounding scenery offers uninterrupted views of Venice and nearby islands such as Torcello, Murano and Burano.
