Pro-life group targets North Carolina voters with abortion-focused canvassing ahead of Senate race
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America says its new voter outreach, reaching over 770,000 homes, is boosting Republican Michael Whatley by highlighting Roy Cooper's abortion record.
A study ordered by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America evaluated four distinct abortion-related messages on a panel of over 2,600 confirmed voters in North Carolina. The trial found that attacks on Governor Roy Cooper’s support for federal abortion legislation and his veto of a 12-week abortion ban generated the strongest swing toward Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley, adding up to about five points to the GOP margin.
Positive messages about Whatley also shifted opinions, though less dramatically. Based on predictive modeling, the group says it can pinpoint the most persuadable voters, regardless of party affiliation, and is now contacting them through canvassing, digital outreach, and other communications. To date, the campaign has reached more than 770,000 households in what is expected to be a highly competitive Senate contest to replace retiring Senator Thom Tillis.
Why it matters
Abortion messaging could significantly influence a tightly contested Senate race in a pivotal swing state.
