Professor Damien Ernst hit with pie at ULiège, university condemns the attack

During a class at the University of Liège, Professor Damien Ernst was hit with a pie in a protest organized by a group styling itself the Vrai Comité (Populaire) d'Éthique de l'ULiège. The collective said the gesture was intended to highlight what they perceive as Ernst's connections to the defence sector and to criticize collaborations between scientific research and the arms industry at the university. The attack took place inside a campus building, disrupting the lecture.

University rector Anne-Sophie Nyssen responded by strongly condemning the assault, describing it as the opposite of the pluralism and mutual respect the institution strives to embody. She added that such actions do not contribute to debate and reduce discourse to primitive instincts. Nyssen confirmed that an inquiry has been launched and that the university reserves the right to seek judicial and, if appropriate, disciplinary action against the perpetrators.
