Progress Party accuses government of stalling road and rail projects

The Progress Party says the Labour-led government is deliberately delaying major road and railway construction promised in the National Transport Plan.

Three years after the Storting adopted the National Transport Plan for 2025-2036, many flagship road and rail schemes have yet to commence. Progress Party representative Bård Hoksrud labeled the situation an "obvious stalling" by the Labour government, saying the projects were forced upon them and are being ignored. He announced that the party will pursue the issue in the Storting and hold accountable the parties that helped secure the parliamentary majority for the plan.

Former transport minister and party colleague Ketil Solvik-Olsen, now a researcher at Civita, contested Transport Minister Kamzy Gunaratnam's assertion that railway funding is at a historic high, arguing that real railway allocations have fallen. Gunaratnam defended the government's record, noting that recent budgets allocated a larger share to operation and maintenance compared with the previous year. The debate highlights ongoing tensions over Norway's transport policy and funding priorities.
