Progress Party pushes for emergency parliamentary session to slash fuel taxes

The Progress Party has asked the leaders of Høyre, the Centre Party and the Christian Democratic Party to support an urgent call for an extra parliamentary meeting to reduce fuel taxes until the end of the year.

Following the burial of King Harald, the Progress Party sent a letter to the heads of Høyre, the Centre Party and the Christian Democratic Party seeking backing for a special Storting session. The aim is to approve a temporary cut to fuel taxes that would remain in force through the new year. The request comes after the parties agreed to a political truce during the king's funeral, and after Høyre leader Ine Eriksen Søreide declined further tax reductions.
