Progressive Democrats Target Israel Arms Sales with Proposed Block the Bombs Act
A group of House Democrats is rallying behind the Block the Bombs Act, which would bar specific weapons shipments to Israel and signal a shift in party policy.
The proposal, backed by more than a third of House Democrats, seeks to prohibit certain arms transfers to Israel. Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar said his bloc will push the bill forward in a Democrat-controlled chamber and reject measures that fund what he called an out-of-control military. He framed the effort as a way to rebuild trust with voters dissatisfied with the current administration’s Israel stance. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has also called for a broader reset of U.S. policy toward Israel.
Why it matters
The bill could alter U.S. military aid to Israel and influence Democratic voters ahead of future elections.
