Promising Australian golfer Jessica Bang dies at 18 after brain bleed
Australian rising star Jessica Bang, 18, passed away following a brain hemorrhage and emergency surgery in Bangkok while preparing for a qualifying tournament.
Eighteen-year-old Australian golfer Jessica Bang suffered a brain hemorrhage on August 1 as she prepared for the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament in Thailand. She was taken to Synphat Ramintra Hospital in Bangkok, where doctors performed emergency surgery and placed her on life support. Her cousins launched a GoFundMe campaign that, at the time of reporting, had raised almost $36,000 AUD to help her parents with medical expenses.
The WPGA Tour of Australasia issued a statement offering thoughts and prayers to Bang’s family, friends, and the Australian golf community. Bang had secured a spot for her rookie season with the WPGA/KLPGA earlier in the year and claimed victory at the Ford Women’s NSW Regional Qualifying tournament in February. Her cousins described her as humorous, cheerful, and vibrant, and pledged to remember her achievements and passion for the sport. She died at 7:20 a.m. local time on Thursday.
