Prosecutors charge 87 election officials over vote-counting errors in presidential runoff
The Siedlce regional prosecutor has filed charges against 87 members of election commissions for mishandling vote counts in the second round of the presidential election.
In mid-September, the Siedlce District Prosecutor's Office announced that 69 individuals faced accusations related to the presidential runoff; the number has now risen to 87 commission members. Prosecutor Bartłomiej Świderski explained that these officials, tasked with overseeing voting and ensuring legal compliance, are charged with unintentionally neglecting their responsibilities. The alleged misconduct includes unreliable determination of valid versus invalid votes and the preparation of inaccurate voting records, which authorities claim inflicted substantial harm on the public interest and on specific presidential candidates.
Earlier, six members of the Obwodowa Komisja Wyborcza nr 4 in Stoczek, attached to the local school complex, were already indicted and will appear before the district court.
