Protesters swarm Turin as police union conference featuring Roberto Vannacci triggers citywide blockades
Hundreds of demonstrators surrounded Turin's Nh Hotel, blocking streets and confronting police while a security conference with Roberto Vannacci took place inside.
On the day Roberto Vannacci attended a security conference at Turin's Nh Hotel, the former general and Futuro Nazionale leader faced a large protest organized by Askatasuna and other anti-fascist groups. Demonstrators ignited red and black smoke grenades, hurled eggs at police and blocked traffic on corso Vittorio Emanuele II, corso Inghilterra, corso Stati Uniti and other main arteries. Police in anti-riot gear and mobile units cordoned the hotel and redirected the crowd toward Porta Susa.
Inside, Valter Mazzetti and Luca Pantanella justified the event as a professional update for police, while activists like Sara Munari condemned Vannacci as a tool of U.S. and Zionist interests. The standoff underscored deep divisions over urban insecurity, police politicisation and the presence of far-right figures in public debate.
Why it matters
The clash illustrates how polarising political figures can disrupt public safety talks and paralyse city traffic.
