PSD blames Bolojan government's austerity for stalled rural projects and youth exodus
PSD officials say the Bolojan administration's austerity measures have halted funding for road and infrastructure projects in rural communes, prompting concerns about poverty and youth leaving the country.
PSD announced on Saturday that austerity policies imposed by the Bolojan government have resulted in the suspension of several rural financing initiatives, according to a Facebook post by senator Doina-Elena Federovici, head of PSD Botoșani. Federovici recounted a conversation with Andreea-Cristina Alecu-Gireadă, mayor of the Mihai Eminescu commune, who said officials in Bucharest told one outlet leaders to either cover road and investment costs from their own budgets or abandon the projects.
The party leader condemned the situation, stating that communes risk reverting to conditions reminiscent of two decades ago and that families are struggling to meet basic energy and fuel expenses. She linked these hardships to a growing wave of youth leaving Romania. Consequently, PSD pledged not to back a Siegfried Mureșan-led government that would perpetuate the austerity agenda.
