PSD claims readiness and legitimacy to assume Romania's government

Sorin Grindeanu said the Social Democratic Party is prepared and justified to take over the Romanian government after talks with President Nicușor Dan.

Following a meeting at the Cotroceni Palace with President Nicușor Dan, Grindeanu announced that the PSD is ready to join and lead the government. He argued that the party’s 2024 parliamentary victory gives it the right to govern. Grindeanu also criticized the previous Bolojan administration, describing its direction as poor, and accused right-wing parties of repeatedly causing economic crises.

Why it matters

The statement signals a potential shift in Romania's governing coalition after the PSD's electoral win.
