PSD pushes Sorin Grindeanu as premier ahead of Cotroceni talks
PSD’s secretary general Claudiu Manda announced the party will back Sorin Grindeanu for prime minister as it heads to consultations at the Cotroceni Palace.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) is set to present Sorin Grindeanu as its candidate for prime minister during the upcoming consultations at the Cotroceni Palace. Claudiu Manda, the party’s secretary general, communicated the move just before talks with President Nicușor Dan, stressing that PSD has a ready-made governance plan aimed at economic relaunch, investment, job creation and safeguarding consumer buying power. He argued that Romania requires a full-authority government led by PSD or a coalition centered on it, with Grindeanu at the helm.
Manda also criticized the prolonged political deadlock, claiming it has unfairly burdened citizens. PSD will be the first party to meet the president at 14:00, with AUR, PNL, USR and UDMR scheduled to follow.
Why it matters
The nomination could shape Romania's next government and its economic recovery plan.
