French prosecutors in Paris have launched a preliminary probe into Nasser al-Khelaifi, the Qatari president of Paris Saint-Germain, over possible conflict-of-interest violations. The inquiry focuses on a July 2024 discussion concerning broadcasting rights for the French football league, which involved both his club leadership and his position at beIN Media Group. The anti-corruption and finance police are conducting the investigation following a tip from the Anticor anti-graft association.
Al-Khelaifi, who has consistently rejected allegations of wrongdoing, is represented by a lawyer who emphasizes his client’s independence and objectivity. This case follows earlier legal challenges, including a February 2025 charge of complicity in abuse of power and prior corruption accusations tied to Qatar’s bids for the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships, which were annulled by the Court of Cassation in 2023.
