A municipal court in Prague confirmed a ten-year prohibition on medical practice and a five-year imprisonment for psychiatrist Jan Cimický, citing sexual attacks and extortion of nearly forty women. The verdict is now enforceable, prompting Cimický to shut the Modrá Laguna clinic in the Ruzyně district, with a sign posted announcing the closure on the day the ban took effect. He retains membership in the Czech Medical Chamber, which lacks authority to remove him absent a lodged complaint, though a spokesperson noted his medical career is effectively over.
His attorney, Miroslav Kučerka, expects to submit an appeal, but the conviction will stand even if appealed. Previously, Cimický had a contract with the social-care facility Laguna Psáry to provide psychiatric care through 2026, but the facility confirmed he no longer sees patients there. The court’s decision relied on testimonies from victims, many of whom were patients seeking help from the well-known psychiatrist.
