PTI plans new family visits to Imran Khan amid sister detentions and court orders

A PTI lawyer, Awais Younas Chaudhry, told that with Imran Khan’s sisters—Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan—detained under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, the party will send other relatives to Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail on Tuesday to request a meeting with the former prime minister. The decision aims to underscore to the Islamabad High Court that its order for twice-weekly family visits is not being fulfilled.

Although the Supreme Court on August 18 directed authorities to allow Khan’s family contact and a medical check-up at Shifa International Hospital, only Noreen Niazi has recently met him, and no further visits have occurred since August 25. The PTI also warned that several of its members, including MNAs Sanaullah Mastikhel, Ahsan Jamal Khan, Mian Ghous and Adil Khan Bazai, as well as an MPA from Chitral, have been arrested ahead of a nationwide protest scheduled for September 27. The party condemned the arrests as an assault on constitutional and democratic norms, while opposition alliance TTAP called for the release of detained workers and the removal of road blockades.
