PTPA blames grueling calendar for wave of Canadian Open pullouts

The Professional Tennis Players Association says the demanding season is behind a spate of withdrawals from this year’s Canadian Open, affecting top men and women players.

According to the Professional Tennis Players Association, the length and intensity of the tennis calendar have forced several high-profile athletes to withdraw from the Canadian Open. Notable absentees include Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on the men's side, and Victoria Mboko, Karolina Muchova and Emma Raducanu among the women. Tournament officials note that late pullouts from Masters 1000 events are becoming a broader problem for the sport.

Why it matters

Frequent withdrawals highlight player fatigue and could pressure tennis authorities to rethink the season’s length.
