Magdeleine Bradford-Butcher, a mother whose newborn received the CF drug Trikafta thanks to federally funded research, submitted a public comment opposing a White House proposal to overhaul the legal framework for federal contracts, including research grants. She argued that the rule could threaten ongoing studies, such as a trial tracking outcomes for children treated with Trikahta in utero. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and science influencer Jessica Knurick urged her to voice these worries.
After the comment appeared on regulations.gov, the Office of Management and Budget removed it without explanation. Legal experts described the disappearance as unusual and opaque, raising concerns about transparency in the rulemaking process.
