Public Service Commission hires over 1,000 nurses to ease shortage

At a ceremony in Kampung Orang Asli Ulu Chenein, Public Service Commission chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus announced that more than 1,000 nursing vacancies have been filled using open interviews and walk-in sessions. He explained that the commission needs roughly 1,400 nurses, so several hundred positions remain urgent. The new hiring method, introduced early this year through nationwide career carnivals, allows diploma-holding candidates to interview on the spot and submit applications at the centre.

Training periods for certain nursing roles mean some slots take longer to staff. Besides nurses, the commission is also accelerating recruitment for other critical posts like Public Health Assistants. Jailani stressed that civil servants are free to seek private-sector jobs after contracts end, but the commission will continue succession planning to maintain staffing levels.
