PuckPedia rises as go-to source after CapFriendly disappears in 2024

For years, NHL fans and many front offices relied on CapFriendly for comprehensive contract data and cap projections. In the summer of 2024 the Washington Capitals hired the site’s founders—Jamie, Ryan and Chris Davis—seeking a competitive edge, which effectively removed the service from public use. Hart Levine, who runs PuckPedia, saw the opportunity and accelerated development of his six-year-old platform.

PuckPedia now delivers not only contract terms but also detailed salary-cap rule guides, transaction logs, agent and general-manager trackers, lineup forecasts, organizational depth charts, scouting tools, draft information, a GM simulator, an AI assistant, a podcast and trivia games. The site’s credibility rests on a network of sources cultivated over nearly a decade, allowing it to publish contract details often before traditional insiders. On the opening day of free agency, PuckPedia outpaced rivals in reporting signings while prioritising accuracy over speed.
