Pulpex launches UK's first large-scale fibre bottle plant near Glasgow

Pulpex has opened a commercial fibre-bottle factory near Glasgow with capacity for up to 40 million units a year and about 39 new skilled jobs.

Pulpex, a UK packaging-technology firm, has inaugurated its first commercial fibre-bottle factory near Glasgow, capable of producing up to 40 million units per year and creating roughly 39 skilled manufacturing positions. The Westway facility moves the company’s wood-pulp bottle technology from prototype to industrial scale, and over 90 % of its initial capacity for one outlet financial year is already committed. Launch customers include household-cleaning brand smol and Purely Scottish Natural Mineral Water, which plans to be the first UK natural mineral water sold in a paper bottle.

The site will act as a reference plant for Pulpex’s Manufacture Under Licence model, with partners already secured in Europe (Perlen Industrieholding AG) and Asia (Alternicq). Backed by the UK’s National Wealth Fund and the Scottish National Investment Bank, the plant supports Pulpex’s ambition to scale to one billion bottles globally through licensed production close to markets and existing recycling streams.

Why it matters

The plant demonstrates a scalable, lower-carbon packaging option and creates skilled jobs while advancing Pulpex’s global licensing strategy.
