Punjab authorities confirm basic provisions for PTI leader’s sister detained ahead of protest

On Sep 20, Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, was taken into custody by the Lahore deputy commissioner under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance. The Punjab government later informed the Lahore High Court that the Kot Lakhpat jail has provided her with basic necessities, including clothing, bedding and personal care items. Assistant Advocate General Farrukh Khan Lodhi presented the jail superintendent’s report during a hearing of a petition filed by Aleema’s son, Shahraiz Khan.

Justice Abher Gul Khan dismissed the petition and instructed the home secretary to decide on a request for a meeting with Aleema. The court had previously sought the home secretary’s response, and barrister Taimur Malik noted difficulties in obtaining medicines. Earlier detentions also included Aleema’s sisters, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, who were ordered to remain in Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat for 30 days ahead of the PTI’s September 27 protest.
