Punjab CM’s relative and film producer detained in Delhi over alleged ₹5 crore bribe
Film producer Amardeep Singh Grewal, brother-in-law of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s wife, was detained at Delhi airport by the Enforcement Directorate in a ₹5 crore bribery probe.
Punjab film producer Amardeep Singh Grewal, identified as the brother-in-law of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife, was detained at Delhi’s airport by the Enforcement Directorate, which had previously issued a look-out circular against him. The ED is probing an alleged ₹5 crore bribery scheme in which the chief minister’s wife, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, was also named, and may have opened a money-laundering case under the PMLA.
Grewal, associated with East Sunshine Production Private Limited, had ignored two summons—first to the High Intensity Unit on Oct 7 and then to the ED office on Oct 9. The investigation stems from an April abduction-rape case in Amritsar that led to allegations of a ₹5 crore payoff to halt the prosecution. A Punjab Human Rights Organisation panel, led by former judge Justice Ranjit Singh, highlighted the matter, and Dr Mann has issued a defamation notice against the panel. The state government continues to deny any direct link between the chief minister and Grewal.
Why it matters
The detention links a senior political family to a major bribery and money-laundering probe, raising concerns about corruption and law enforcement in Punjab.
