Punjab to recruit 10,000 new officers to intensify anti-drug campaign

At a ceremony honoring police personnel, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unveiled a major expansion of the state's police force, targeting the persistent drug problem. The plan includes 10,000 new recruitment posts for the upcoming financial year, alongside 450 directly appointed Assistant Sub-Inspectors and 3,400 officers currently in training. Mann urged officers to move into rural areas, gather community intelligence and act swiftly on every tip.
He highlighted recent upgrades such as CCTV networks, AI-driven monitoring, modern vehicles and anti-drone technology to modernise policing. The chief minister also noted ongoing talks with the central government to make the NDPS Act more stringent, aiming to curb trafficking more effectively.
