Putin says BRICS' global clout is steadily expanding at New Delhi summit

At the opening of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi, President Vladimir Putin remarked that the alliance’s authority and influence are continuously increasing on the world stage. He pointed to deeper collaboration among the six members across political, security, economic, financial, cultural and humanitarian domains. According to Putin, an increasing number of states are loudly declaring their readiness to protect national interests and engage in global problem-solving.

He said the international balance of power is moving toward new growth centres in the Global South and the East, rendering the former unipolar system obsolete. Putin warned that those who still view the world in a “garden versus jungle” dichotomy hinder the emergence of a truly multipolar order. The summit runs on September 12-13.
