Putin signals willingness to discuss lasting settlement of Ukraine conflict after Trump call
Russia's foreign policy adviser said Vladimir Putin remains ready to negotiate a permanent solution to the Ukraine war, a stance reiterated during a phone conversation with Donald Trump.
According to one outlet adviser Jurij Usakov, Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that Moscow is still prepared to engage in negotiations for a lasting settlement of the Ukraine conflict, even as the goals of the "special operation" remain the same. Putin described Ukraine's actions as attempts to intensify and extend the war, citing massive drone strikes that also hit the Russian capital on the day of the Russian parliamentary elections.
He said the possibility of talks has become a priority for both presidents, though the timing depends on evolving circumstances. Trump reportedly agreed to pass Putin's messages to the Ukrainian delegation in Miami and raised the prospect of a new Iran deal. The conversation also touched on the upcoming APEC summit, with both leaders indicating interest in a bilateral meeting, and Trump conveyed Melania Trump's greeting and humanitarian support to Putin. Usakov added that both sides expressed satisfaction with the functioning of communication links among their ministries, security agencies and other authorities.
