Putin warns of nuclear retaliation over UK support for Ukraine, urges civilian prep
Russia has threatened to use nuclear weapons against Britain because of its aid to Ukraine, and experts advise citizens to ready emergency kits.
After learning that British-made long-range drones were employed in Ukrainian attacks on Russian soil, Moscow issued a stark warning that further UK support could trigger a nuclear response. The Russian Embassy in London described Britain as an accomplice to Ukrainian actions and said it would face consequences. In light of these threats, authorities have published a detailed survival guide, urging residents to assemble a disaster supplies kit with water, food, a radio, lighting, first-aid and hygiene items.
They recommend storing the kit in airtight containers and keeping it portable. If a radiation hazard is announced, people should immediately seek shelter behind multiple walls, preferably in basements, high-rise buildings, underground car parks or subway stations, and remain inside for at least 24 hours as radiation levels fall.
Why it matters
Rising nuclear threats heighten public safety concerns and highlight the need for civilian preparedness.
