Qantas cancels Rome-Perth flight after bedbug incident on Boeing 787

A Qantas Boeing 787 Dreamliner was taken out of service after passengers reported bedbug bites on a Rome-Perth flight, prompting a cancellation and deep cleaning.

Passengers on a Qantas Boeing 787 Dreamliner traveling from Perth to Rome reported itchy bites, later attributed to bedbugs. Following the complaints, the airline removed the aircraft from its schedule to conduct an intensive cleaning of the affected seats. The next day's Rome-Perth flight was cancelled, and Qantas provided hotel stays and rebooking options for all impacted travelers within 48 hours.

A spokesperson expressed regret for the disruption and confirmed that the cleaning was necessary after the problem was identified. Bedbugs are small, wingless parasites that can cause discomfort but are not typically dangerous to health. The incident adds to a series of recent travel disruptions linked to bedbug infestations on various airlines and transport services.
