QatarEnergy Secures 30% Stakes in Seven New Brazil Offshore Exploration Blocks

QatarEnergy will own 30% of seven exploration blocks in Brazil's Ceará Basin, with Petrobras retaining the remaining share.

The state-owned QatarEnergy has agreed to acquire a 30% interest in each of seven offshore blocks off Brazil's northeastern coast, while Petrobras will act as operator for the projects. The concession contracts, which allow the parties to keep any discovered resources after paying royalties and taxes, are slated for signing in the first half of 2027. This move adds to QatarEnergy's recent expansion into Uruguay, Angola and the Republic of Congo.

Why it matters

The agreement expands QatarEnergy's global footprint and deepens Brazil's partnership with a major Gulf oil producer.
