Qatari Sheikh's son detained at Munich airport over Spanish football club probe

The Generalstaatsanwaltschaft in Munich verified that Rakan Al Thani, the son of Qatar's Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, was arrested at Munich Airport under a European arrest warrant issued by Spanish authorities. He is currently detained in a Bavarian correctional institution. The warrant stems from a Spanish investigation into the Al Thani family's control of FC Málaga, where prosecutors claim the family engaged in large-scale financial misappropriation and irregular business practices.

Spanish courts have previously ordered the removal of the family from the club and appointed an insolvency administrator. The Spanish prosecution is seeking lengthy prison terms for the alleged offenses. No comment has been received from the Al Thani family.
