QR stickers linking to online drug shop found near Estonian schools

Stickers with QR codes that direct users to a website selling illegal drugs have been placed near numerous schools in Estonia.

In multiple large cities across Estonia, stickers bearing QR codes have been affixed near school premises, directing scanners to a web store that offers a range of illegal substances with price lists. Police have been alerted to a high volume of these stickers and are attempting to close the online drug marketplace as quickly as possible, acknowledging that the takedown cannot happen instantly. The police chief has asked citizens to peel off any stickers they see, yet the adhesives are frequently reapplied.

It is suspected that the individuals printing and applying the stickers may not know the destination website, possibly being hired solely for the placement task. The motive appears to be targeting minors, hoping to entice curious youths to experiment with drugs they may not fully understand.

Why it matters

The scheme exploits school environments to market illegal drugs to minors, raising serious public safety concerns.
