Quarry worker dies after boulder crushes his truck in Ipoh
A 53-year-old quarry worker, M. Sivakumar, was killed when a falling boulder crushed the lorry he was driving at a quarry in Keramat Pulai, Ipoh.
On a Thursday afternoon in Keramat Pulai, Kampung Kepayang, a boulder dislodged during quarrying fell onto a lorry loaded with rocks, trapping its driver, 53-year-old M. Sivakumar. The Perak Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 5.18 pm and dispatched crews from Simpang Pulai and Gopeng, who reached the site by 5.29 pm. Responders employed hydraulic tools to extricate the vehicle while health officials examined the victim and declared him dead at the scene.
A total of twelve firefighters participated in the rescue, after which the body was transferred to police custody. The incident highlights the dangers of quarry work and the swift response of local emergency services.
