Queensland approves extradition of notorious childcare offender to New South Wales
Attorney-General Deb Frecklington announced that Ashley Paul Griffith will be sent to New South Wales to face roughly 180 child-related charges.
Queensland’s Magistrates Court has granted an extradition request for Ashley Paul Griffith, a convicted paedophile linked to childcare settings, sending him to New South Wales to answer nearly 180 additional charges. Attorney-General Deb Frecklington told parliament that the decision, reached within the last half hour, reflects joint efforts with NSW Attorney-General Michael Daley to ensure victims receive justice. Griffith’s criminal history includes a Queensland life sentence after pleading guilty to 307 state and federal offences involving 69 girls, ranging from rape to child-exploitation material.
He recently failed in an appeal against that sentence. The extradition will allow NSW courts to try him on the new allegations, fulfilling the victims’ demand for a trial.
Why it matters
The extradition ensures the offender faces additional charges and gives victims a chance for justice in New South Wales.
