Queensland farmer on trial for triple homicide and attempted murder

In a Supreme Court trial in north Queensland, 63-year-old cattle farmer Darryl Valroy Young is charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for a shooting at the gate of his Bogie cattle station on August 4, 2022. Prosecutors allege he killed neighbour Graham Tighe, Tighe's mother Maree Schwarz and stepfather Mervyn Schwarz, while Tighe's brother Ross survived despite being wounded. Multiple witnesses, including Ross Tighe and an unnamed ex-partner, recounted the incident as a "horror movie" and said Young was seen lingering on his buggy near the border property before the attack.

The defence, led by Anthony J Kimmins, questioned the credibility of the ex-partner's account and suggested she may not have overheard the alleged phone call arranging the meeting. Young's son Derek Young testified that he observed no blood or weapon on his father and that the family was later arrested after being instructed to travel together to the property gate. The case continues with further evidence to be presented.
