Queensland police probe alleged rape at Hader Clinic rehab centre

A mother, Vanessa Baker, alleges her daughter Claire was raped while enrolled at Hader Clinic, a private drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Gympie. After reporting the incident to staff, Claire was discharged and taken to Maleny Hospital, where forensic testing was initiated because the clinic said emotional dysregulation prevented testing on site. The clinic later informed Baker that the case was deemed closed, while maintaining that it does not tolerate sexual misconduct and will cooperate with investigations.

Queensland Police have opened an inquiry, confirming the report was made three days after the alleged assault and that no charges have been laid. Additional former patients, including Danielle Lister, have voiced concerns about safety, citing sexual harassment, unsecured dormitory doors and the presence of court-ordered clients. Hader Clinic operates a 25-bed private hospital and a 40-bed residential service and is subject to limited regulation in Queensland's private rehab sector.
