Rachida Dati faces vague Renault contract allegations in Paris court

Since last Wednesday, the Paris Tribunal has been examining the case of former minister Rachida Dati, whose exact responsibilities for Renault remain ill-defined. Her defence team has repeatedly raised procedural nullities, effectively delaying a substantive hearing. Dati stands trial with former Renault-Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn, who is said to have compensated her via the group's Dutch arm, RNBV, for work of uncertain scope from 2009 to 2012.

While she was formally engaged as a lawyer, Ghosn testified that he considered her a qualified figure for "business diplomacy". The court has thus been navigating a complex mix of legal and corporate claims, with the pace of the trial currently favoring the defendants.
