Joseph Willard Vancol, who led the community radio station Ti Boukan FM and co-directed a local training centre, was kidnapped during a gang assault by the 103 Zombies group near Port-au-Prince. Authorities and volunteers searched for him for several days before his decapitated body was recovered in a forested section of Petit-Boucan. Human-rights advocates called the murder brutal and highlighted the ongoing wave of violence against journalists in Haiti.
Vancol, aged 73, was well-known and respected in the Gressier area. The incident adds to a series of attacks on media workers amid the country's deepening security crisis.
