Radio host Sébastien Cauet appears before Paris judges on teenage rape allegations

Sébastien Cauet was questioned by Paris investigative judges on accusations of rapes and sexual assault involving teenage girls.

Sébastien Cauet, a well-known French radio personality, was summoned to the Paris court on Wednesday for an interrogation by investigative judges regarding multiple rape and sexual assault charges. Accompanied by his attorney, Me Jade Dousselin, he faced allegations that include raping a 16-year-old in Geneva in November 2014 and a 15-year-old in Paris in December 1997, as well as a sexual assault on a 17-year-old in 2012.

The case, which also involves a charge of corrupting a minor over fifteen, stems from incidents spanning 1997 to 2014 involving four women, three of whom were teenagers at the time. Cauet, who was dismissed from NRJ in early 2024 and later allowed to resume radio work without an audience, maintains his innocence and has lodged a complaint for alleged death threats made via social media. The investigation continues as the judges seek further clarification of the accusations.

Why it matters

The case highlights high-profile accountability for alleged sexual crimes and raises questions about media figures' legal immunity.
