Rafizi urges dissenting MPs to quit government and abandon seats

Rafizi said lawmakers who cannot support the government should leave it and vacate their parliamentary seats.

At a recent party media briefing, Rafizi warned that elected representatives should not remain silent while the government pursues policies at odds with their values, urging them to "dissociate yourself" from the administration. He explained that, given anti-defection rules, the only viable option for principled MPs is to resign their seats. Rafizi, along with Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Wong Chen, have already resigned as MPs and ministers, exiting PKR and moving to Parti Bersama.

Nik Nazmi also gave up his Pandan seat, while Wong Chen left his Subang seat after 17 years in PKR. Former PKR treasurer Lee Chean Chung announced his shift to Parti Bersama after relinquishing his Petaling Jaya seat.

Why it matters

The resignations could weaken the ruling coalition and reshape Malaysia's parliamentary balance.
