In a recent Rolling Stone interview, former Chicago mayor and former Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel expressed that he is leaning toward a 2028 presidential campaign, describing himself as “more yes than no.” The 66-year-old, who previously served as ambassador to Japan under the Biden administration, said his perspective changed after traveling across swing states and observing the country’s challenges. Emanuel insisted he would forgo a traditional exploratory phase and would simply announce a run if he decides to proceed.

He noted his wife Amy Rule’s frequent reminders that a final family discussion is essential before any commitment. While some Democratic strategists doubt his chances of winning, they concede his media savvy could influence the primary dynamics. He also cited historical examples such as Bill Clinton’s low polling and Barack Obama’s early deficit against Hillary Clinton to argue that early numbers are not decisive.
