Rahul Gandhi questions BJP's response to Bihar's recurring flood disaster
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the BJP-led government for failing to provide a lasting solution to Bihar's repeated flooding, which has again affected millions.
Rahul Gandhi used his X platform to condemn the BJP-led government's handling of Bihar's flood crisis, asking what has changed in the last 17 years and calling for a permanent solution instead of recurring aid. He noted that the floods have once more struck with devastating force, submerging hundreds of villages and leaving many dead or missing. Official figures show that 49.67 lakh residents in 15 districts are affected, with the Ganga, Sone and Punpun rivers swelling after heavy rains in neighboring states and Nepal.
Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary said the state will transfer Rs 579 crore, giving Rs 7,000 to each of the 8.27 lakh families in need. Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited the flood-hit areas and promised central support, while the state plans surveys of the Kosi and Mahananda rivers and studies on embankment reinforcement as part of a long-term strategy.
Why it matters
The criticism underscores political pressure on the government to address recurring flood damage that threatens millions in Bihar.
