Rahul Gandhi stages sit-in at DCP office demanding FIR for pellet-gun victim
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi began a sit-in outside the DCP office in Connaught Place after Delhi police refused to file an FIR for a student injured by a pellet gun.
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the DCP office in Connaught Place, demanding that Delhi police register an FIR for Sahil Lochav, a student wounded by a pellet gun during the July 20 crackdown on a Jantar Mantar demonstration. Gandhi first approached Mandir Marg Police Station, where officials refused to file a case, prompting him to seek an audience with the DCP. He accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of authorising the use of lethal weapons against protesters.
Congress alleges that Lochav submitted a written complaint on August 14 in the presence of lawyers, yet the police failed to issue an I/O number or any acknowledgment. Follow-up attempts on August 17 also yielded no response. The party maintains that the refusal to file an FIR constitutes a denial of justice, and Gandhi and Lochav will remain at the station until the complaint is recorded.
Why it matters
The protest highlights concerns over police use of force and the procedural denial of legal recourse for victims.
