Raiders sign veteran linebacker Buddy Johnson to bolster depth

The Las Vegas Raiders recently signed veteran linebacker Buddy Johnson as a free agent. Johnson, 27, has logged 33 game appearances across four NFL seasons, though he has not started a contest. His career includes a four-game spell with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 and time on the rosters of the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and Dallas Cowboys, where he made the 53-man roster in 2023.

He finished the previous season with the Indianapolis Colts. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, Johnson played his college career at Texas A&M. The Raiders plan to give him a thorough look in training camp and the preseason, with the possibility of earning a spot on the 53-man roster as a depth player or remaining on the practice squad.
