Railway worker arrested for raping passenger after promising a confirmed ticket at Rourkela station

Police said a 20-year-old passenger traveling with two cousins to Bengaluru was unable to secure a confirmed ticket at Rourkela station. Kapileshwar Singh, a valve operator with Indian Railways, offered to obtain a ticket and led the woman to an operator room near the Officers’ Rest House, where he locked the door and raped her. He allegedly threatened her against reporting the assault and offered ₹2,000.

The woman fled when Singh attempted another assault, informed her cousins, and they reported the incident to the Government Railway Police. Senior divisional commercial manager Aditya Chaudhary confirmed Singh’s dismissal and loss of pension benefits. Sub-inspector Kailash Munda arrested Singh, and medical examinations of both parties were conducted. The victim is being housed at a women’s violence centre, with her statement to be recorded before a magistrate.
