Rain forces PONY League World Series to switch to single-elimination finale

Organizers of the PONY League World Series reported that continuous rain has rendered the playing surface unsuitable for further games, forcing a revision of the tournament schedule. All matches scheduled for Tuesday were cancelled, and with only Wednesday remaining before teams must depart, the remaining six clubs will compete in a single-elimination format. The only teams that have not yet lost a game, Washington and Chinese Taipei, will meet in the championship match on Wednesday evening.

A Facebook update acknowledged the disappointment this decision causes for the four other teams still in the field. The statement noted that every alternative was examined, but the combination of field conditions and a firm travel deadline left no viable option.
